The capital of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar is a popular tourist destination. This must visit place has a rich mixture of archaeological sites of great historical value, museum and Wildlife.

By Air :

Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar (also known as Hollongi Airport) is a greenfield airport serving Itanagar, the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, India.It has been constructed at Hollongi, situated at a distance of about 27 kilometres south from the city centre, in the Papum Pare district. Airport receives regional Indigo flight from Kolkata.

Lilabari airport in North Lakhimpur is the Second nearest airport to the Itanagar at a distance of about 72 kilometres. Lilabari airport receives regional flights from Kolkata and Guwahati.

By Rail :

Harmuti railway station in Assam and Naharlagun railway station in Arunachal Pradesh are the closest railway to reach Itanagar, each at a distance of 34 kilometres and 15 kilometres respectively. Naharlagun railway station being a new addition to Indian railway has two rails running to and from like New Delhi – Naharlagun AC SF Express and Naharlagun – Guwahati Inter City Express.

By Road :

You can reach Itanagar via bus from Banderdewa, North Lakhimpur, Tezpur and Guwahati.

The Banderdewa bus will take you through national highway 415, Tezpur bus will take you through national highway 15, 415. Guwahati bus will take you through national highway 15, 415. You can avail any prepaid taxis from the airport or the railway station. ASTC bus service is also available from Banderdewa, Guwahati and Tezpur.

Apply for Inner Line Permit(ILP)

Arunachal Pradesh falls under restricted area, official permission is required to enter the state, and therefore the visitors other than natives of Arunachal Pradesh are required to obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter Arunachal Pradesh. The Permit is granted as a routine for the tourists and so it should not deter any tourist from coming to Arunachal Pradesh. Inner line Permits are issued by the Secretary (Political), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, respective Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Districts. These can also be obtained from Resident Commissioner’s office / Deputy Resident Commissioner & Liaison Offices.

Individual foreigner visiting Arunachal Pradesh or East Kameng District require Restricted Area Permit (R.A.P) from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government. of India, F-1, Lok Nayak Bhawan, Khan Market, New Delhi- 110 001. Group tourists consisting of at least 4 (four) members can obtain the R.A.P from
